El rinoceronte blanco
del norte es una de las dos subespecies de rinoceronte blanco existentes.
Antiguamente podía encontrarse en regiones de África Oriental y Central, al sur
del Sáhara. Desde marzo de 2018, solo quedan dos ejemplares con vida, y ambos son
hembras, por lo que su especie se considera extinta. Aun así, se ha recopilado
material genético del último macho, y se espera poder hacer una inseminación
artificial.
- The northern white rhinoceros is one of two extant subspecies of white rhinoceros. Formerly it could be found in regions of Eastern and Central Africa, south of the Sahara. As of March 2018, there are only two specimens left alive, and both are female, so their species is considered extinct. Even so, genetic material has been collected from the last male, and it is hoped that artificial insemination will be carried out.
